Databricks acquires bamboolib creator 8080 Labs
The acquisition will strengthen Databricks’ low-code/no-code offerings
Databricks has acquired 8080 Labs, creator of bamboolib, for an undisclosed sum.
Per the new deal, 8080 Labs’s UI-driven capabilities will be integrated into Databricks' Lakehouse Platform, extending the company's low-code/no-code offerings.
In addition, the strategic acquisition will allow a broader audience to access Lakehouse, promoting the democratization of data and artificial intelligence (AI) within the enterprise.
The firm will also incorporate 8080 Labs’ no-code technology into its AutoML, visualization, and dashboard offerings, increasing accessibility for experts and citizen data scientists alike.
"We are thrilled to welcome 8080 Labs to the team as we accelerate the adoption and accessibility of lakehouse as the data architecture of the future," said Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO of Databricks.

Ghodsi added, "Together with last year's acquisition of Redash, we are broadening the focus of our user base to a wider audience that prefers low-code/no-code solutions. Bringing simple capabilities to Databricks is a critical step in empowering more people within an organization to easily analyze and explore large sets of data, regardless of expertise."
Databricks' glass-box approach to AutoML, in conjunction with 8080 Labs' acquisition, enables users to perform comprehensive data tasks with ease, from data analysis and data transformation to machine learning (ML) workflow implementations.
The combined platform automatically generates high-quality code behind the scenes, so data teams can implement their findings and results without requiring engineers to recreate the process.
Databricks hasn’t disclosed the acquisition’s financial terms. The firm recently secured $1.6 billion from investors to accelerate the global adoption and development of its Lakehouse platform.
